The berimbau is descended from traditional bow instruments in Africa. It is used in a variety of performances, folkloric and pop, but perhaps most famously as support for capoeira. While the concpet of a bow and wire is simple, the technique of muting the coconut resonator and manipulating the playing stone against the wire allows for a wide range of expression.
