Maracatu de Baque Virado is played with a special technique on alfaias (bombos), requiring special wooden sticks. On the left is a pair from Liverpool. The larger stick is for the dominant hand striking the center of the head; the smaller one is for the "weak" hand on the edge. The Master, in the right photo, can be used in tandem with smaller sticks or in matching pairs.
